Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
