The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
