Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with performances like these.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
