Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

The English seamer added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the tour at the SCG begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was omitted of the third Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, taking two wickets with the ball, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he came back the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he bowled a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test having missed of the third.
