Followers Demand Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are demanding that a person who breached a barricade and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a legal violation," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the unexpected bond between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
