Arteta Hails ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Confirms Kai Havertz Setback.
Arsenal's manager has expressed confidence that his squad can persist in handling with fitness issues after confirming that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for the coming weeks.
Extended Absence for Havertz
The German forward has been absent for months due to knee surgery. Hoped to come back sooner, the manager stated the player encountered a problem when stepping up his rehabilitation and could not progress “to the next level.”
“Our experience helped us build a group that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” Arteta said.
Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture
This news presents a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s match against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored as a makeshift striker on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly after a fitness issue off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains in contention following a lengthy absence.
Fitness Doubts Linger
Additional concerns involve defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.
The manager is convinced the significant outlay on reinforcements in the last transfer window has resulted in a more robust situation to navigate such unavailability.
Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit
When asked if more options was helping their title quest, his response was positive. “Yes, because this season has presented greater challenges in the attacking line, and now the situation with the defence,” he added.
“We learned from the past that we have to use players in different positions, and they have to be able to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the top. And the instance of Mikel is just the best one.”
Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz
Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave additional context. “He followed all protocols. He failed to advance to the required step and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”
The manager conveyed his keenness to welcome him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his character, his personality. I watch him struggle on the sidelines.”
“His playing record is exceptional, he’s been always available, and I can’t wait to get him back involved playing because I feel it’s going to be a massive boost.”
